Help me decorate bathrooms/ pick items for wedding registry?

My soon-to-be husband and I are moving into a 1960's-vintage house with outdated decor. We can't change a lot in terms of the fixtures and such, but we still want it to look cute. Can you give me some decorating help for our two bathrooms?

The master bathroom currently has:

-- White shower, tile, walls, sink (yay!)

-- Sand-colored countertop (okay)

-- 60's-70's bathroom mirror with a silver cabinet underneath with translucent aqua-blue doors (ick!)

The guest bathroom currently has dark beige everything (floor to ceiling, all paint and fixtures -- yuck!). We are repainting the walls and cabinets, but a lot will have to stay beige (toilet, sink, bathtub, tile). Additionally, this bathroom is dark and narrow, so we want something to brighten it up a bit.

What colors/motifs would you recommend? I like whites, blues, greens, yellows, and reds. I like dragonfly, flower, bamboo, and ocean themes. Any links to pictures of towel sets or bathroom accessory sets would be great

Thanks!

Congratulation on your soon-to-come wedding!

It might be fun to go for a spa or garden feel in your Master Bathroom. Something that both you and your husband will like and is soothing.

You might want to consider a small 'project' to replace the mirror/medicine cabinet. You could pull out the cabinet and then either get a new cabinet, or patch the wall and use a mirror and shelves on the side. Here are some mirrors.

I like to start with the shower curtain when I'm choosing linens for the bathroom. Here are some ideas for shower curtains for your Master Bathroom:

Your Guest Bathroom could use your ocean or beach theme. Think as the beige toilet, tub, sink, and tile as sand. Here are some ideas for shower curtains that aren't too kitschy:

You could use a bamboo rug like this one for your Guest bathroom:

Once you've selected your shower curtain, be sure to pick out curtain hooks too. Then you can add other accessories to your registry that go with the theme you've selected.

I always get white towels for my every day towels. White, Egyptian Cotton towels are fabulous. I do use colored hand towels in my guest bathroom. I choose fun, colorful hand towels in my guest bathroom and will often have several different patterns that I rotate based on my mood.

Another quick way to perk up a bathroom that you can not rennovate is to add some moisture, shade loving plants. Bromiliads work well...;)

Have fun!

Added in edit:

I have these dragonfly hooks in my living room. I bet you could use them in your Master Bathroom; or anywhere in your house.

Reply:Try www.target.com. From what I can tell of what you wrote, I think they might have a good bit of stuff that would go with those rooms/colors. Some of their stuff can get a little expencive but, you can always use it just to see something you might like and find it somewhere else.
