I was in my Garden late last night %26amp; noticed Loads of snails ( big ones ) sitting on a wall I`d built for a rockery, the rockery wont be completed till next year, my Q` is. will the snails destroy any flowers that I plant in the future?
I dont want to kill the snails Maybe just deter them if possible if they are going to affect the flowers.
I`m a novice gardener
Thank you.
Snails, good or bad for your garden?
I can think of no good purpose for snails. The French can; but other than escargots, there is no reason to have them.
Reply:Snails can be very destructive to many plants. If you don't want to kill them, you'll have to eliminate their moist, daytime hiding places.
Reply:They will destroy your young plants. I spent an hour in the garden this morning collecting snails, they always come out in large numbers after rainfall. Like you, I don't want to kill them, so I take them to a nearby waste ground and let them go.
Reply:Yes, we pondered this a few weeks ago. See here http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind...
Reply:If you go out in the garden on a still warm damp night and listen hard you will be able to hear all those slugs and snails munching their way through all the young tender shoots on your prize garden plants.
Reply:The snails will eat almost anything you put in just like slugs, sink a plastic tumbler into the ground and half fill it with beer they will fall in as it attracts them then get rid of them along with the slugs..... awful things,
Reply:They are terrible for your garden, as other answers have pointed out. I collect the snails from my garden and take them to an area well away from gardens and release them for the thrushes to eat !
