Anyone else plan a wedding and buy a house at the same time?

My fiance and I got engaged the day before Thanksgiving last year, decided it financially made sense for us to get married soon so we could buy a house and take advantage of this housing slump, so here we are, getting married May 18th and in escrow on a house (trying to close escrow Friday next week). And it's a fixer - every wall needs new paint, plus new floors in kitchen, hall, and master bedroom. Plus general cleaning. THEN we have to move all of our furniture in! Wew! Got a lot to do!!! Have a lot of the wedding stuff done, just the little things left, like make the favors, etc. Flowers, dj, photog, minister, sites, etc. are already reserved.

Anyway, just feeling really busy, although surprisingly, not stressed. Has anyone else done this? Any pointers to get through it all in time, or reminders of things I may be forgetting?

We did 6 years ago (our anniversary is this coming Monday). Bought/closed on a house in Feb and got married 6 weeks later. It was very stressful handling the bank, wedding/honeymoon plans, etc. Just take one day at a time and expect glitches to happen. Good luck with everything.
Reply:I can honestly yes I know what your going though. We bought a 300 acre farm cattle and horses on june 3 got married on oct 12 and had a baby the fallowing sept. You will make it.
Reply:WHEW is Right! Were getting married in Oct, but have decided to wait and BUILD prob. in January. The stress of buying the lot, and money for wedding, honeymoon, land, closing, is overwhelming! I feel your pain. I agree, you have to prioritize first, set budget's and let everything flow, according to God's plan.
Reply:Well, we aren't buying a house (I wish we were) but we are planning a move and changing jobs while planning a destination wedding, so I know that things can get a little hectic. All you can do is make lists, prioritize and try to handle one thing at a time. My big thing is that I keep having to remind people, like my mother, that I am only one person and things can only be done so quickly. I have had to let a lot of things go and just decide that I will do the best I can but nothing will be perfect, and it doesn't have to be. Just keep your lists in order and try not to stress it, do the best you can.
Reply:No, but we are planning a wedding while holding down two mortgages. I bought my place in April of 2006. He bought his in August of 2006. We started dating in September of 2006. We can't see my place with the market as crazy as it is, so it amazing that we can still afford to get married!

Just take some deep breaths, create to do lists, and check off what you get done!
Reply:I can imagine. i've been married for almost 5 months and closing on a house next week. we didn't do it at the same time, but just thinking of doing it together stresses me out! Good luck! I hope you're going on a nice long honeymoon after it's all through! Wheew!
Reply:I am in the same boat as you! We are moving into our new house in CA in about a month and we have not packed anything yet : / On top of that I am the MOH in my best friend's wedding in June and then my wedding is at the beginning of July. I'm trying to balance getting my friend's parties organized and also try to get a hold of some people to come paint our house before we move in! Since we allowed the sellers to lease the house longer we basically have one week from when they move out to when we move in to get everything done. I am super stressed out! :(
