Need help with color idea????!!!!!?

I just bought a new bedspread that is a darker orange and then has a huge purple flower on it. It is very abstract but cool. I cant think of a color that would go with both colors of the bedspread. I am painting my walls to match it and I dont want a lot of color but enough color for people to notice that my room looks different. Any ideas???

Depends on what you want the wall color to do in relation to the comforter. If you want the comforter to pop against the walls choose a color opposite on the color wheel. If you want the comforter to just blend in with the walls then choose the dominating color of the comforter.





You could pick a much lighter shade of purple than the flower on the comforter (take the comforter to a paint store and match it to the flower but in a lighter value) and the orange will definitely pop out against it and it would be a nice compliment to the purple flower.

Reply:A real soft light peach or a medium ivory would be neutral enough to bring the colors in but allow other colors to enhance. You can also make all of it pop with some beautiful plants and your room will be a haven. Bottom line, have fun, there is no right or wrong when it comes to creating your own environment, it should be a place you love to go.
Reply:The complimentary color for both of those is a pale yellow, which would look fab. You could add some chocolate brown curtains or throw pillows to add some earth tones as well. Generally speaking if you can't match a color you go for something totally different to off set it.
Reply:what if you used them both, by painting the wall one color then using the other color to put a thick strip running parallel to the floor but in the middle of the wall
Reply:The walls only have to match ONE of the colours to tie in - which could be any shade of orange - from very pale to almost rust - or of course any shade of purple.





Alterntively, ignore the above and pick a colour that you feel compliments and contrasts well.





If you have a pillowcase with a small version of the design, how about taking it into t a paint shop / wallpaper place. Even if you do not want wall paper it can be a useful place to look at "slabs of colour" :)
Reply:Paint the wall red. Red, purple and orange work well together or if you want to tone it down, you could use a lavender or cottony pink.





I would go for some brightly colored shag carpeting and some curtains with pompoms or feathers. Have fun with it and remember a comforter and curtains and accessories can quickly be changed but repainting the wall can be a pain. So pick a color you can live with.
