Freaky dream this morning?

I woke really early like at six this morning and noticed i still had an hour to sleep so i did and i had a dream that I was in a children's hospital??? Sitting on a black couch (i'm gonna be as specific as possible) and there were four couches and a table in the middle. and plants against the walls. im talking to two doctors with my mom and they said i had cancer and theire are openings or like windows and i saw hallways with skeletons lying on stretchers holding flowers and well. before that part i had a dream that i was wearing a jacket well the hood was on my head and it was raining and i was in a truck and i got out. and i saw someone very familiar looking. i think it was uh whats her name from disney channel my niece watches it all the time uh vanessa something. and she was dressed like a rocker punk or something. ok THEN i had the cancer dream. whats dis mean

Freaky dream this morning?
Dreams don't mean anything. They are almost completely random neurological events. You can create a lot of weirdness for yourself by over focusing on some nonsense out of a dream. The dream will be very much richer in detail than you can remember. It is just like reality in that respect. It is full of stuff for you to attach your attention to. What you attach your attention to "determines" what you get out of the experience.





So it is not the dream that has learning in it. It is what you have selected from the dream to construct into a memory that has learning in it. Why did you choose those details to remember? What about your current state of being would be better in your control, if you noticed that you were attending to in your dream or in your life. Where else in your life do those kinds of selections show up and what is the price you pay for being distracted into those paths?





I think just giving credence to the idea that dreams have some meaning, is sufficiently distracting to distort my experience of the present. Practicing staying present is very valuable and is exactly why the practice is called THE PRESENT.

Reply:Well, it definitely reinforces the mother-son relationship--you still feel like her child because she brought you to a children's hospital. You're feeling old, thinking of your niece and her favorite celeb, and thinking of cancer, you're worried that your time is nearly up, and that you dread the thought of dying of cancer.
