Since getting rid of carpets and going with wood floors everywhere,i feel iv lost the cosiness to my home .?

Iv always been into the cosy feel of home but my home lost somthing when i opted for no carpets which im glad of cause its more hygenic and is better for my asthma,and is always fresh and fragrant now.Even with my little dog and my cockatiels.Iv scattered cushions and got fur (faux)rugs around.But the minimilistic look means i have to compensate the cosiness.Plain walls and fabrics just dont have the same appeal,and i dont have the funds to start over,and i know i can put up flowery prints,cushions,candles,vases of flowers/grasses,but its still not giving me that cosy feel i used to know.Can anyone come up with something to recosy my home please,cause i miss it.

Add some warm accents - picture and photo frames in a warm wood, brass, or red/orange/yellow/chocolate enamel; candles and flower/plant arrangements in wood or warm color holders;

washable throws/blankets/quilts;

washable pillows or cushions;

stencils or designs on walls

? washable rugs
Reply:I have carpet in my living room, bedroom and on the stairs, everywhere else in my house has wooden flooring so I can get the benefits of both and still maintain the cosiness of carpet under my feet! Rugs look nice but don't make up for lack of carpet where you really need it. Maybe you should think about having carpet in just one or two rooms of the house.
Reply:Hi, Patsy. So, I'm guessing fluffy throw rugs may not be the answer? (smile) How about (maybe?) moving/regrouping the furniture? Move it away from the walls (and/or around the big, furry, fluffy rug(s)? Move it closer together; nearer a fireplace or the T.V. Or a "coversational" grouping?? A warmer/cosier color on the walls? Pick up one (or all) of the big, furry, fluffy rugs and hang it/them on the wall(s)? Hang a throw or a spread or a blanket that you like and that would suit as a wall hanging? (I KNOW your house isn't cold temp/wise,; it's the feel!)... these things have been known to help...Maybe ...? Good luck. I'm glad your asthma is better. }:%26gt; ... And; is anything else missing as well, maybe? I'm just asking.... Maybe it's not only the carpets? I know, you have your birds and your dog....as you did say; but......? ALSO- colored lightbulbs for the lamps, etc. (NOT Christmas colors) but the pale pink (I really like the pink ones; very flattering as well as warmer-feeling) or peach or-they come in A Lot of shades, now.Phillips I think, makes them and calls them "pastels". I'm pretty sure that by now almost anyone makes some...
Reply:Paint is always the best option for creating a mood! We have 9' ceilings in our house so we opted for a really dark brown over the winter to create a "homey" feeling in our home and it worked! You feel relaxed and at home when in our newly painted home and it only cost us $150.00 to paint the whole house ourselves. So if you have a large area go for a dark color accented by your white trim or go for a more subtle sage or blue, paint can do so much and it really is only as expensive as you make it.
Reply:The only thing i can think of is to have warm coloured wallpapers,colour your ceiling gently,it will give the appearance of the ceiling being a bit lower,which will tend to make it feel cosier.
Reply:Hard floors tend to make a room feel bigger, and more square with straight lines. If you're like me you like to feel like the room is smaller with big "fluffy" or shapely things in it (like the room is cuddling you), rather than big with seemingly small "square" things in it (where the room feels like it's swallowing you). Here's what you do... paint your walls a dark neutral color (like chocolate brown)... this will make the room seem smaller and more cozy... still not enough... brace yourself... paint your ceiling the same color as the walls. I did this when I was in high school, my mom switched mine and my brother's rooms and I didn't like the "bigness" of his room, so I painted the entire room a dark sage green... even the ceiling. It was fabulous... and to this day I miss that room.
Reply:My last house had all hardwood floors in it, and I warmed up the rooms by using rich colors on the walls. They were very cold and stark feeling when I moved in (like seafoam green and white). I painted one room sage (Patina color in American tradition from lowes), one room a nice warm Khaki color (Sand 4 color also at lowes), the living room, I did a kinda denim color called Mercer Blue and a wine color on the wall behind my fireplace with a golden Khaki cove ceiling and ivory trim.

My mom walked in and told me I should become a decorator, and she's not one to hand a compliment out if it's not deserved. Anyway, if your furniture and accessories are all neutral you can get away with lots of surprising colors on the walls...and it's cheaper than filling the room with lots of knicknacks.

Also...just a long drapy scarf wrapped around a curtain rod can change the look of a room...they are anywhere from $20-$40 at stores like Target, Wal-Mart, or Bed Bath and Beyond.

Good luck! I'd love to hear what you end up deciding to do. You can play around with paint color options on both the Home Depot and Lowes websites...the paint tools are challenging to find, and the one at lowes is a little easier, but they are free, and you can see how a shade looks on a whole wall vs. that tiny little paint card they have in the store.
Reply:Rugs Rugs Rugs.
Reply:get really large persian rugs. Get some carpets!
Reply:I know exactly what you mean. It is so much cleaner but not a bit cosy. Try moving the furniture to cover some of the bareness. Put a bit of red in the room to warm it up, also try bigger rugs you can push in the washing machine when needed. The only other thing is buy a carpet for one room
Reply:I have always had carpet and dogs. I have thought about getting rid of the carpet, but I know exactly what you mean about the cozy ness. My neighbor has the exactly same floor plan as my house and they took out their carpet and I do not like the feel of their house, so I am keep my carpet. Large rugs would work, but the cost would almost as much as you putting in new carpet. I have multi colored carpet. Its several shades of brown/tan/beige and does not show any dirt like those plush carpets do. I would get that, multi colored carpet to hide the dirt.
Reply:Great for a clog dance though,evening,s you can soften up with standard and table lamps of a type to glow off your walls giving a nice warm bounce back, as you have already listed rugs , cushions and fabrics you do not leave much to do , unless you go back to rush mats, they will not affect your breathing problem, to much wooden floors do leave a cold look, you should have looked into it on pictures before committing to it, if by doing that now you may find someone who is displaying in their photo's something that may be of use you can put into your own home.
Reply:i have always thought especially the craze of this wood strip flooring when i walk into any-ones homes without carpet i immediately feel cold and uncomfortable and how some folk can have tiled floors in the bedroom even my friends have it in Spain i still feel very uncomfortable and the cosiness is gone//so Patsy i can give you no alternative than get the carpets back down again
Reply:i wish i had an answer for you becaus i'm in the same situation. i have 4 kids and a labby and it easier having the wood floors but my home lacks cosiness. i have rugs and cushions, but that is all there is i think. i'll read some of your answers anyway, see if i too can find any ideas.

thanks for the question x
Reply:big fluffy rugs
Reply:A few options for your room... Get the same carpet padding you would have for a wall to wall carpet and put it under your throw rugs it will help them feel softer then they already are and make them a little more pleasant to walk on... also moving your furniture so its off the walls and also not lined up with the walls will help remove the "boxy" feeling one of the biggest mistakes people make is putting their couches and other furniture against the walls... turn your couch at an angle from the wall and put the front feet of the couch onto the rug to help anchor it into whatever seating you have in the room... I am not exactly sure of what furniture you have in the room but hopefully taking them off the walls and re-arranging them will help greatly
Reply:how about some nice big thick rugs? or even cheaper a pair of fluffy slippers for you.
Reply:The wooden floors may not help your asthma the carpets were actually better believe it or not. The carpets would have trapped anything circulating in the air therefore if you vacuumed on a regular basis you could eliminate the problem. Also you could have had your carpets treated which would kill dust mites etc

Wodden floors cannot trap anything therefore just recirculating. Shag pile rugs are the best for that cosy feeling. Best of luck
Reply:nope!!!!!!!!!!!!

i got rid of my carpets for expensive laminate flooring 3 years ago.

the only way to cosy it is back to carpets i am afraid.

but my fella says we paid enough in the bloody fist place for my laminate whim, and therefore we have to get our £700 worth before we change back to carpets!!!!!!!!!
