My boston ivy only flowered with a few leaves then died off. it looks pretty dead. do i leave it till 08?

it covers a large wall. there are a few red leaves left on one side but the branches have gone dark brown with no green centres. do i start again or hope for it to bloom next year

if your Boston Ivy's branches are dark brown you'll have to start over. i had a plant once that did the same thing and never grew back. i kept it cause i thought that it wasn't dead, or that i should keep it and waited to see if it grew back again but it never did so don't waste your time and get another one.
Reply:If it's been there for years it's unusual, have you done anything different in the last couple seasons? Could it have been hit with an herbicide by you, a neighbor or the city? Prune out the dead material now and hope for the best next spring. RScott
Reply:Leave it until spring, hopefully it has just died back for winter but if you don't get new growth next year the plant may be diseased, in which case it will need to be removed and burnt
