What flowers should I plant to match my house?

They will be planted in a stone wall bed. My house has nrown brick, tan siding and navy shutters.

What flowers should I plant to match my house?
The house you described is painted in a neutral pallette. (nice colors) Flowers are usually used to accent a house with some contrast but not always. The all white/green colored garden is an unusual place where someone wants a cool, sophisticated and calm place to relax. Sounds easy but it is actually harder to do...since the shapes of leaves become very important.

For rest of us, color is the way express ourselves. So picking our favorites to start with and then adding and changing as we go along is a pretty normal way to procede.

With the somewhat formal arrangement you describe, a good way to start would be to pick a color first for the border! Plant that same plant closely( acc. to width on the plant info stick) for the length of the whole front edge of the boxes so that they fill in and give a unified appearance. Choose a neutral like red, yellow, or blue. I particularly like yellow (at this moment in time but last year I chose a soft apricot color which would look good against your stone bed, too. You want to choose an easy care plant that fills in quickly...to give you some "punch" right away!

Once you choose your border you are halfway there. at this point your garden boxes will look good no matter how much time you have to continue...

Now you have time to get creative and pick some different colors, heights and textures...Its easier to choose because now you have limited yourself a bit. If you have picked a soft yellow for instance any softer colors will go together well. If you picked like a strong red geranium (which is another good choice for your house colors), you will want to pick other strong colors, since pastels will look washed out.

However, in gardening styling the only rule is there are no rules...except for the rules meant to be broken.

Some over-riding questions are ones like:

"What plants do well in this particular sun condition?"

What plants have similar water needs to make them easy to care for?"

Which spots in my garden to I want something that looks good year around?

I strongly recommend you buy your first plants at a smaller garden store or nursery. Not only do they have display gardens that give you great ideas...they have people there who know what they are talking about to answer your questions. They are not like used car salesmen! A sale today won't give them enough business to do any good. They need you to be successful so you will come back!

I hope this helps to get you started!
Reply:Red all the way! Get some red hedge roses and then underplant with other colors you like. Lavender would be nice and is hardy. Also osteospermums are in every nursery right now in great colors (low-growing daisy). Or whatever catches your eye.
Reply:Use colors you love.
Reply:Yellow roses. I think the contrast would look nice. ^_^
Reply:Don't try to match your house. Use a plant that contrasts with it. Anything bright would look great against the brown brick. Daisies and other perennials underplanted with annuals if you are going to grow flowers. If you are looking for a hedge, use privet or other light shrub.
Reply:Flowers come in all colors because all colors go together just as in "Spring bouquets". So let your imagination have a free rein on this, have fun.
