Are you allowed to make improvements on the side of a fence facing your property if your neighbor erected it?

I planted some flowering vines and I need to hammer in some nails on the concrete surface facing my property to attached strings to the vine as it grows and shoots out upward. Am I allowed by law to do this without asking permission from the neighbor who erected the fence? After all, a few nails will not damage the almost 8-foot-high concrete fence. I even thought of attaching an iron or wooden trellis on the wall

The chances are high that the fence is not on your property, so technically, unless you had a survey to determine whose property the fence is on, you wouldn't have a legal right to modify the fence. It would probably be best to ask your neighbor if they mind. Chances are they won't.
Reply:this all depends on the property line if the fence is only on your neighbors property then technically its there fence and you need there permission but if the fence runs down the middle of the property line then technically its on your property and its partly yours

the best thing to do is ask the neighbor because the last thing you want is to start a war between you and your neighbor unless you already don't get along then can he see your side of the fence and if no is there a time that you can do this with out him being home so he will never find out you they say its easier to ask forgiveness than permission but you should ask them
Reply:I think it depends on where the fence is. If it is all on the neighbour's property, technically,no.

If the fence is on the boundary or encroaching on your land, yes, because it is on your prperty.

If you do not know where the property line is, I would do it anyway. neighbour won't even notice.
Reply:The fence is most likely not on your property. Therefore, I would ask permission from the neighbor before making any alterations.

If you do not ask permission they might press charges against you for destruction of property.
Reply:check your city/county codes. be sure you know exactly what your property boundaries are and consider talking to your neighbor first.
