What kind of decorations can i put around a Big Screen TV?

We don't want a huge entertainment center, but the wall looks so empty without anything. We have dark brown suede couches and cream colored sheer window panels. Carpet is off white....just looking for some fresh ideas. Pictures, shelves, flowers?? I'm just not sure, help!

What kind of decorations can i put around a Big Screen TV?
Here's your pretty penny idea.

Its kinda like putting a flat screen above a fire place it gives you two different focal You can do it yourself or pay some one alot to have it done for you. from your TV up put a water fall with pebbles/glass/tile which ever is most appealing to you, flat against your wall. with a nice wood frame. then on either side find some nice tall /thin tables with doors you want them about a foot shorter then your TV. put some nice draping plants on each one then you can store DVDs inside of them. then above the plants buy some floating shelves-and place simple nicknack's like you'd find at pier one . the things you look at and say wow that's pretty what is it. any who that's my idea a lot of work buy just image..........

the TVs off the lights are off just a few candles lite on top of the TV and around the room just you and that special some one very romantic.
Reply:I don't think anyone will be looking at the pictures or knick knacks, when there is a TV to look at. Perhaps you could try doing a texturizing effect to the wall with some paint.
Reply:If you want symmetry, tall plants on each side in woven or leather covered decorative pots placed equi-distant from the t.v. For Assymetry, put a plant on one side (with the woven/leather basket) and then put an odd number of baskets in various heights on the other side (like a tall, medium and small).

Over the t.v. hang a long skinny mirror with metal accents on its side... or find an odd number of framed pictures (three or five) you can hang next to each other across the space over the t.v. I had a long buffet that had a huge blank space above it... I ended up finding a packet of 5 greeting cards I really liked, bought them, bought cheap black frames at $2 a piece, and hung those cards over my buffet.... I always got complements on it and it cost me less than $15 to do it.

Another idea, place one long decorative shelf (with the hidden mounts) above the t.v. Set an odd number of framed images of varying sizes on it in the middle. Put a vase with some real looking fake flowers on one end of the shelf (like calla lillies, if you want to keep the neutral tone, or red hyacinth for a blast of color) and put a couple candles on the other end of the shelf, maybe with pretty beaded holders that roughly match the color of the flowers.

If you do the shelf thing, axe the plant idea. It'd be too much maybe....

Anyway, good luck in whatever you do!
Reply:Group pictures in sets...give them a theme - school pics of children, vacation pictures, holidays.

Large plants that are taller than the TV work well too.
Reply:You don't state the size of the BIG SCREEN, but I'll assume it isn't 50 plus inches.

Certainly you can do many things that end up on the wall around it, or add speakers IE:Home theater type setting, but if the TV is the supposed focus, then I'd let it be so.

Shelving might offer multiple benefits,,, A place to store DVD's/VHS tapes/ CD's? BOOKS even, as if it were part of a library surrounding the entertainment medium.

You don't state the EMPTY as it regards the amount of space, but I myself am a minimalist. Clutter, in things we have to dust, or be careful with, or grow tired of, is truly unnecessary.

Reply:i have a 63" AND I HAVE PLANTS ON EACH SIDE WITH A NICE POT AND BEHIND ON THE WALL I HAVE 3 NICE SIZE PICTURES, MINE ARE OF THE WATER %26amp; BOATS(THERE OLD LOOKING)....LOOKS ALRIGHT.....BEHIND TO THE SIDE I HAVE MY MOVIE CASE WHICH IS TALL AND ON TOP OF IT I HAVE A BIG, BIG WINE GLASS FILLED WITH THINGS I FOUND OFF THE BEACH...(SHELLS, ROCKS, AND GLASS) I GET LOTS OF COMPLIMENTS (I THINK MOSTLY FOR THE T.V...LOL)I HOPE THIS HELPS
Reply:It sounds like neutral and earth toned abstracts like vases, statutes, even framed fabric, would be perfect. Whatever you choose, display different sizes-small, medium and large. Neutral abstracts would not draw attention from the screen when in use and complement the angularity of the screen and basic setup when not in use.
Reply:I also have a big screen tv and ran into this same problem when I got it. I have 2 matching tall, slender tables on both sides of the tv. (nice plant stands would work for this too, if your on a budget) and then I paired 2 matching lamps on those tables. It looks better if you end up with the lamps as high as the tv. In my case I placed 2 large hard cover books under both of the lamps. This raised them up and added a home like touch to the gaint tv. And then on top of the tv on one end I placed I large, low sided basket with hanging greenery inside it (green plants go with everything). It helped hide some of the gaint tv gap between the back of the tv and the wall. And then on the other end I have a long matel clock and framed pictures in the middle. My tv is a 60 inch and is pretty tall, I found that hanging a picture behind it made it look to cluttered. So I found that wall sconces with candles at the sides looked better. If your ceilings are higher than normal or if you think just something needs to be above the tv, try going with one of the 36x12 pictures. They have ton's of them at www.art.com where you can serch by subject, size, and price. Hope this helped you out.
Reply:get a couple of friends over, move it to the window, and have everyone push it out to the waiting dump truck. It will only cost you $100 to get rid of it at the local landfill. Nothing can make those things look decent.
